Unit Summary: Students will become explorers of practical and impratical places. This unit was written to be taught in conjuction with Scott Foresman Reading Street Grade 2 Unit 1 Exploration. As they learn about communities, space, and Earth’s regions in their Reading lessons, the students investigate different places to explore. Throughout the unit, the students will create short oral reports, make lists, design brochures, and share research. The students will learn to conduct research online, locate, copy, and paste pictures to the desktop. The unit will culminate with students choosing a location to explore and creating an online poster to share their research.
Curriculum Framing Questions:
· The students will compare and contrast urban, suburban, and rural communities.
· The students will identify the basic components of our solar system – sun, planets, moons.
· The students will identify, compare, and contrast different regions of the earth.
· The students will critique different regions of the earth, different types of communities, and different components of our solar system to determine where they would like to explore.
· The students will utilize research skills to collect and record information on their chosen topics.
The students will use digital tools to create a presentation on their chosen topic.
