Unit Plan Title: The 3 Branches of the US Government
Unit Summary: The US Constitution is a plan for our government. It can be divided into three main parts. Students need to understand the importance of separation of powers, checks & balances, & judicial review. Name the three branches of government and identify the basic powers established the US constitution. Students will be able to explain how each is dependent on the other to complete its work and describe how the courts acts as a "referee".

Essential Question: Why do we have rules and laws?
Unit Question: What purposes should government serve?
Content Question: How is the United States government organized? And what are its powers expressed in the US Constitution?
